Falling Leaves on the Track

Autumn brings with it those familiar reports which signal travel delays.

We have a number of vegetation teams who can help to keep rail tracks and access areas free of falling leaves, helping the rail networks keep their trains running on time.

Background

Vegetation works generally follow a seasonal pattern, each requiring its own specific range of equipment and skills.

During the months of October to December, our vegetation teams were asked to undertake programmed leaf fall clearances on the TfL LUL network to avoid any disruption to services.

The Work

A total of 13 gangs cleared areas of track and access areas along the BCV and SSL lines respectively.

Over the course of the 40-day project, the teams managed to gather and collect over 4,300 bags of waste material, an astonishing quantity of fallen leaves.

The Result

The work undertaken enabled underground trains to continue to provide a good service.

We received positive feedback from our client, with final project meeting figures being congratulated as the most productive season so far.
