A massive well done to one of our longest-serving staff members, Mark Shipley, who recently completed the Brighton Half Marathon.
He ran to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support and smashed his target of £500, eventually reaching a fabulous £2,030. Mark chose this charity having lost two uncles to cancer in the recent past, and this gave him the momentum he needed to keep going and complete the run.
The achievement also came on the back of Mark’s recent and impressive weight loss journey and a general getting healthy and fit campaign.
For those of you who love statistics, Mark only started running in July last year, and his time was 2:20 – in his words “my fastest and only half marathon so far”! We call that zero to hero.
Mark says “The feeling I had as I finished was very emotional as it was like I was closing a door on a big chapter of my life and starting a new one. The crowd cheering me on for the last few hundred metres was just incredible. I’ve never felt energy like it. Once done I enjoyed a few pints of Guinness”.
Congratulations Mark, we’re all proud of you . . . . and we’ll wait to hear when you’re doing the next one!
